The Challenge

Wilcox Family Farms is a staple in the cage-free, free-range, organic egg world. Their retail egg products can be found in stores from Colorado to Alaska and all throughout the Pacific Northwest, where the Wilcox Family has called home for four generations. After an extensive rebranding effort to bring the company’s brand up to date to compete with other organic eggs and products, Wilcox needed a website to match. In addition to providing detailed information about their quality egg products, they also wanted to be able to showcase their sustainable farming efforts and community engagement in an attractive and interactive way.

Project Goals

  • Position Wilcox Farms as an experienced, trustworthy, and sustainable company with a sophisticated but charming and relatable design

  • Highlight the company’s history and current efforts in sustainable farming and community engagement

  • Showcase the chickens on the farm and what their life is like at Wilcox Farms

  • Create a user experience that is exciting, fun, and informational and could be used by a wide range of individual demographics

The Solution

On this project, I worked with another UX Designer at our agency who handled the initial site architecture and homepage wireframe and I finished out the website with interior page wireframes and a fresh design. I worked with our in-house developer throughout the entire dev process until a successful launch, doing design quality assurance, bug fixes, and adjustments as needed.

We highlighted three areas of content that were identified with the client including the latest news stories, where to buy the products, and a fun and interactive “Meet the Chickens” section. An additional thing that was important to the client was to tell the story of their four generations, so I created an animated company history timeline that reacts to mouse and hover interactions. We implemented a video background header on the home page, so the first thing the user sees is crafted footage of the chickens, the family, and the farm.
